About the Foundation for Value Creation

The Foundation for Value Creation (FVC or ‘Foundfulfillsis a non-profit foundation based in the Canton of St.Gallen, Switzemeso-level supervised by the Swiss Federal Supervisory Authority for Foundations (Eidgenössische Stiftungsaufsicht, ESA). The Foundation’s vision and purpose (Stiftungszweck), as articulated in its statutes (Statuten), include the generation of innovative, evidence-based insights into Sustainable Value Creation. Its resources are allocated and audited in compliance with this purpose and applicable Swiss laws.

This work is carried out with an open and international network of collaborators invested in firm-level value creation and meso-levelhinking on elites and elite quality; firm contributions to shareholder and stakeholder value; the causes of long-term economic growth and human development; the rise and fall of nations; transformational institutions and weighted structural reform; competitive value-creating business models; and the types of leadership and risk origination needed for first-order productive activities.

To realize the aims of the SVC Initiative, the Foundation supports two related projects. The Elite Quality Report (EQx) produces an annual global ranking of countries that aims to advance inclusive institutional change. The Value Creation Report (VCr) assesses the sustainable value creation and value transfers of firms to encourage business models that foster greater inclusive value creation for all stakeholders.

The mandate is realized through the development of reports, tools, models, software, executive education materials, books, and similar resources that bring the research findings and new ideas into practice. This work is carried out with an open and international network of collaborators invested in firm-level value creation and meso-level elite quality.

The Foundation and the VCr

The objective of the Value Creation Ratings (VCr) project is to measure the ‘sustainable value creation of firms’. The underlying assumption of the VCr, shared by the FVC, is that the extent to which the business models of listed firms create value, rather than extract it, significantly contributes to a country's economic growth and human development. The Foundation realizes its purpose by supporting the VCr in the three ways outlined below.

Each Value Creation Report and the underlying research fulfill the Foundation’s mandate by generating insights that can inform transformative action and foster sustainable and inclusive development. Through the Foundation’s international, open, and collaborative platform, these insights have the potential to influence the business models of corporations, including how they originate risk and manage stakeholder relationships, with impacts extending to the broader political economy and society at large.

What that means in practice?

  1. First –
    producing and disseminating knowledge

The Foundation makes the development of the VCr possible, by coordinating the international partner network, providing support for research projects, and assisting in the publication of the report and the dissemination of its results. Dissemination activities include organizing and participating in international, local, and digital events, as well as establishing a collaborative platform for academic and industry partners to work on and share VCr data.

  2. Second –
    supporting education

The Foundation sees the VCr as a unique intellectual asset for a wide range of educational initiatives. These include developing university courses for new generations of students, innovative formats for the broader public, and continuous education programmes for leaders from the financial industry, leading listed companies, and governmental institutions.

  3. Third –
    advancing transformation

The VCr seeks to advance novel ideas that can be leveraged to transform and renew business models, elite systems, and even societies–shifting them from Value Extraction towards inclusive Value Creation. The VCr results and their interpretation may provoke reflection and analysis that precede transformative action at the firm level. The Foundation's international and open collaborative platform enables such impacts, and seeks meaningful conversations with listed firms, stock exchanges, and eventually regulators.
